Other Lakes and Rivers

 Mabel Lake

Kirk was out at Mabel with his wife this past weekend, doing a bit of a LEGAL salmon fish!  They caught 3 in less than an hour, with the biggest being approx. 42 lbs!  They did keep a smaller 25 to give it a try in the smoker, nothing wrong with that!   Thanks Kirk!

Skaha Lake

The following is Mark's report from their outings:

Been awhile since I have sent in a fishing report! I have been keeping up with the website but as I now live in Penticton not Kelowna I have been fishing the south. Catching lots of bass and carp these days. Jen got a six pound largemouth awhile ago. I guess Skaha would go under the other lakes category. Anyways went out on skaha early this morning to try for rainbows. I haven't had alot of success with them but I read the Okanagan report by Dale Johnson so I thought I might give it a shot. I tried to do a lot more zigzagging  as I read in an online article. Well it worked. I was trolling a chrome flutter spoon at about 2.5 mph with 2 ounces of weight when the reel started to scream. I picked up and watched a really nice rainbow somewhere in the eight pound region hit the air. I was using a single action reel and got knuckledusted by the fish when it got off. At least I got to see it jump a few times so now it is a good fishing story.  I tried slowing down to 2mph as I noticed the fish took the spoon on an inside turn. Next I caught a small rainbow and was reeling in when something big (photo) hit it. Turned out to be a massive squawfish I got both of them to the boat on one small hook. Then just as I was about to pack things in a go to work I got a nice 26 inch 5 pound rainbow (photo) on a green and white lyman plug at 80 feet. I kept this one for the barbeque as I hooked her in the eye. All my fishing was in 120 to 180 feet of water I tried to use some structure as you advise and I gave a crack Jay's method of going into the deepest water on the lake. Not a bad morning out except for dodging the waterskiers, I think they go close because they want to show off. Hopefully I will have some better luck with the "bows" in the future. Cheers Mark Karlstrom

Thanks Mark, great report and pics!!

Mabel Lake

Wayne and Chris Cross tried out Mabel for a change, maybe not a good change?  Here is their report:

Wayne caught this bow in Mabel Lake at 9:30 am Aug. 14/10. We were only on the lake about 15 min. Water temp: 69 degrees, lure: silver plug with sparkles, and he had a piece of shrimp on the end. 50' out back and 40' down. Trolling speed: 2.5 mph
A few other hits and then a sucker fish stuck but obviously returned.  Size of this (photo) bow was: 24" length 6.5 pounds

Thanks guys!

Todd Lenzi was also out on Mable to give it a try and broke protocol with his buddies in sending me this report!  Ahhhhhm they'll get over it Todd, I have no doubt they also read the site for tips!  Here's Todd's report:

We went out last Saturday to Mabel Lake to try are luck at Poor Man's Salmon fishing no luck or no salmon. We did see them jump so they where there. Fished all day and only saw one boat land a Salmon so it was slow for everyone. The survey guy only reported three fish and two where out of the water before we put in. Boy,  has Mabel Lake changed from the last time I was there . We did take some kids fishing last night on Lake Revelstoke for kokanee and it was tough to catch two fish for two little boys that had never caught a fish. An old timer did come up and ask me how we made out, he said he was out all day and only managed one kok and 10 for three days so it has slowed down for the kokanee. I did find they where in deeper water 40' to 45' and did manage two fish (no pressure) in the age of instant gratification. One little Boy said to me he would have had ten fish by now on his Wii and after he caught his first fish as he held it in his hands, I asked if he ever held those ten fish on his Wii or cooked them up and ate them. He looked up and said "no this was way cooler then fishing on his Wii". I would like to way into your Salmon debate but I would not be adding anything that you haven't said already, We where out August long at the Shuswap and did really well on the rainbows 8 bows in less than 10 hrs of fishing, biggest rainbow was 6 lb. We did get two Salmon, one I would guess would go 20 lb to 25 lb. I think the key for us why we picked up more  rainbows than Salmon was speed we did 3 to 3.4 mph. This was faster than myfriends in the bay that where picking up just Salmon. We where fishing under them also we would pickup a Salmon at 30' to 40' on the fish finder and fish 40' to 50' and stayed around any bait balls. This helped target rainbows not salmon.

Thanks for the report Todd!

Fraser River

This is Darrell and his kids up at Lilloett.  He's a Member there and tries to get out fishing with his youngens whenever he can.  This beaut was caught right out front of Lilloett, from shore, with squid for bait.  Nice job buddy!  Or should I say buddies!

  Fraser River

Jordan and his crew got back on the big river to try for Mr. White again!  Here's his report:

"Well you miss out on a great time in the wall tent even the girls thought they were luxuries!!  Well the trains were running just the same but the river was running much faster then last trip.  The Saturday was the highest water  for the river this year and the current was 7.5 to 8 mph down at the port mann hole.  With this kind of current the only way to fish is finding eddy's and waiting for incoming tides.  The first day we didn't stay out long enough to fish the high tide so it was hard to get our gear on the bottom.  The second day the river had come down a little and we started fishing later so we could stay out for the high tide.  The fishing was slow so far not a bit and then the tide change and Bang Bang 2 fish in the boat.  Nothing to big but the girls got to see a couple of fish."

Thanks Jordan, glad the girls liked the tent!

Kinbasket Lake

May 16 2010

Steve and crew did a trip to Kin, apparently my outing on Arrow yesterday deterred him from trying that!  A total of 6 hours spent fishing and a total of 3 nice fish!  This was a new lake for Steve so he was going to try and see where the other boats were fishing but they took off and were never to be seen again!  Nice guys!

Still, he stuck to it and it was a Rainbow Apex that took this (photo) nice bull!  They tried by Sprague Bay for a bit and then worked south, still looking for the other boats.  It wasn't until they returned to that area that they finally spotted a few boats working the area they were just in and , one of the boats was bringing in a fish.  It was here that they took the largest bull, 31", on that Apex.  They tried all the Arrow Lk "good stuff" but not a bite on any of it, looks like the fish are fussy everywhere and on everything!  Thanks Steve!

April 25 2010

The Sharp crew fished Kinbasket for a few days, fishing was amazing!  20 plus fish days, with fish like this (photo) nice bull that Rob took.  Their best hook for the outing was a Cop Car Apex or a chrome J-Plug, fished in close to shore.  They did launch at the dam, having to back down approx. 150 metres or so.  John also said that Sprague Bay campground is still closed up due to the snow and it'll be a few more weeks before its accessible.  Thanks for the report John!
